IELTS Opinion Essay Question

The growing number of overweight  people is putting a strain on the health care system in an effort to deal with the health issues involved. Some people think that the best way to deal with this problem is to introduce more physical education lessons in the school curriculum. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

IELTS Agree Disagree Model Essay Answer

Owing to the problems that a growing population of overweight people causes for the healthcare system, some people believe that the key to addressing these issues is to provide more opportunities for sport and exercise in schools. In my opinion, I strongly agree that this is one of the most effective ways to tackle the problem of deteriorating public health related to obesity and excess weight. This essay will demonstrate how integrating more physical activity into school programmes could not only make children fitter, but also benefit the well-being of their families.

Firstly, tackling obesity and weight-related health problems requires a long-term approach, and introducing more sport and exercise in schools could contribute significantly to this goal. This approach would help ensure that the next generation is healthier and less likely to suffer from weight-related health problems. At present, many children in Western countries engage in physical activity only a few times a week, which may not be sufficient to counteract their otherwise sedentary lifestyles. However, by incorporating more physical education classes into the curriculum and encouraging extracurricular sporting activities, schools could help children become fitter and more active.

Another point to consider is that providing children with more opportunities to exercise at school may encourage them to develop a lasting interest in physical activity, which could influence other members of their families. In other words, parents may be more likely to participate in sport themselves if their children are enthusiastic about physical activity. If both parents and children become involved, children may be more likely to incorporate exercise into their daily lives as they grow older. This could therefore have a positive and lasting effect on public health.

Admittedly, some people may disagree with my point of view. They might argue that schoolchildren are already exceedingly busy with their academic work and that introducing additional lessons, whether physical education or otherwise, could contribute to increased stress and anxiety. However, I do not find this argument convincing. Physical exercise can reduce stress and is also essential for counteracting the sedentary lifestyles that have become increasingly common among students as a result of demanding academic programmes. Providing more opportunities for physical activity could therefore help students relax while also breaking up the routine of a typical school day.

In conclusion, given the growing number of overweight and physically inactive people, encouraging the next generation to adopt healthier lifestyles by increasing opportunities for sport and exercise in schools is an effective way to address this problem. Although physical education alone cannot eliminate obesity, it can play an important role in preventing weight-related health problems and improving public health in the long term.

IELTS Opinion Essay Question

Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

IELTS Agree Disagree Model Essay Answer

It is a common knowledge that some people prefer to live in a small town, while others find interest living in a big city. We need to admit that either of these two choices has its pros and cons, in other words, both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. However, I would much rather choose to live in a small town. There are several arguments to show why I think so.

Firstly, small town is more ecological than big city. Small towns do not have traffic jams, as the result, they feature lower emissions due to lower levels of traffic. Usually, small town has more greenery, like gardens, lawns and alleys of trees. The distances in a small city are not great, which makes possible to use bicycle, kick scooter or even walking, which have a positive effect on health.

Secondly, life in a small town is usually not as stressful as in a big city. All the residents usually know each other and conflicts are very rare. Also, small towns statistically have lower crime rate.

Оn the other hand, my opponents might argue that the effect of living in a small town often results  in difficulty in finding well-paid job. However, this is not so crucial, if you work remotely or from home, for example, via the Internet or some messengers. Some critics of living in a small town also note that salaries there tend to be not very high. Nevertheless, small towns also have less expensive real estate which offsets this negative factor.

In conclusion, even though for some people life in a small city is not acceptable, I still vote for choosing this option. Better ecology, low crime rate, cheaper real estate and ability to work from home - all this make living in a small town a clear winner.

IELTS Opinion Essay Question

Do you agree or disagree that parents are the best teachers?

IELTS Agree Disagree Model Essay Answer

It is often argued that parents play the most important role in their children’s education. While some believe that formal education and professional teachers are more effective in imparting knowledge, I strongly agree that parents are the best teachers, especially during the formative years of a child’s life.

To begin with, parents are the first educators children encounter, and they lay the foundation for moral values, social skills, and basic behaviour. Long before formal schooling begins, children learn essential habits such as honesty, respect, and empathy from their parents. This early influence shapes not only a child’s character but also their approach to learning throughout life.

Moreover, parents possess a unique understanding of their children’s personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. Unlike teachers, who often have to divide attention among many students, parents can tailor their guidance to suit individual needs. For instance, a parent may know that their child learns better through visual materials and can adjust their teaching methods accordingly, which can significantly enhance learning outcomes.

That said, it must be acknowledged that parents may lack the specialised knowledge and pedagogical training of professional educators. In subjects like advanced mathematics or science, teachers are indispensable. Nevertheless, the role of parents in fostering curiosity, instilling discipline, and encouraging persistence is irreplaceable, as these traits are critical to academic success.

In conclusion, while professional teachers provide subject-specific expertise, parents are the best teachers in a broader sense because they shape both the intellectual and emotional development of their children. Their deep personal connection, combined with constant presence during early growth, makes their educational influence unique and long-lasting.

Do you agree or disagree that parents are the best teachers?

IELTS Agree Disagree Model Essay Answer

Parents play an undeniably central role in shaping a child’s early development, and I strongly agree that they are the best teachers. Their influence extends far beyond basic instruction, as they provide emotional guidance, moral foundations, and lifelong behavioural models that no other educator can replicate.

To begin with, parents are a child’s first and most consistent teachers, especially in the formative years. From birth, children rely entirely on their parents to learn fundamental skills such as speaking, walking, and interacting with the world. Crucially, young children absorb not only practical abilities but also emotional cues from parental behaviour. For instance, when parents react to a child’s success or frustration, the child begins to understand emotional expression, empathy, and self-regulation. The family environment therefore becomes the primary space where children learn essential values such as honesty, kindness, respect, and responsibility. These early lessons form the moral and emotional foundation on which all future learning is built.

Furthermore, parents play a critical role in demonstrating how to navigate the complexities of adult life. Children observe their parents’ attitudes towards challenges, relationships, work, and personal growth. If parents consistently display negativity and blame external factors for their difficulties, their children are likely to adopt a similarly defeatist mindset. Conversely, when parents model resilience, optimism, and accountability, they teach their children to approach life with confidence and a sense of agency. Such behavioural modelling is far more impactful than verbal instruction alone, as children internalise what they repeatedly witness.

In conclusion, the influence parents exert through daily interactions, emotional support, and personal example is unparalleled. They not only equip children with basic skills but also shape their worldview, emotional intelligence, and character. Because parental guidance continues to affect individuals throughout their lives, parents can indeed be considered the most effective and enduring teachers a child will ever have.

Sample 5    (Band 9.0 IELTS Essay)
IELTS Opinion Essay Question

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Sometimes it is better not to tell the truth. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

IELTS Agree Disagree Model Essay Answer

Although some people argue that hiding the truth may be necessary in sensitive situations, I strongly believe that honesty is almost always the best policy. Lies rarely remain concealed, and when they eventually come to light, the consequences can be far more damaging than the truth itself.

To begin with, dishonesty usually creates further complications. A single lie often leads to additional ones, forming a chain that becomes increasingly difficult to manage. When the truth finally emerges, which it typically does, the sense of betrayal can severely damage relationships and trust. In contrast, honesty, even when uncomfortable, prevents such long-term repercussions.

Furthermore, the truth is generally more constructive than deception. People can make informed decisions only when they know the reality of the situation. Although the truth may seem painful in the short term, it enables growth, responsibility, and improvement. Lies, on the other hand, simply postpone problems and frequently make them worse.

Admittedly, some believe that telling the truth can be impolite or hurtful. While this concern is understandable, honesty does not have to be harsh. It is possible to express the truth tactfully, choosing appropriate words and tone to avoid causing unnecessary offence. Therefore, sensitivity and sincerity can coexist.

In conclusion, the advantages of telling the truth far outweigh any perceived benefits of hiding it. Honesty promotes trust, clarity, and long-term stability, making it the most responsible approach in almost all situations.

Sample 6    (Band 9.0 IELTS Essay)
IELTS Opinion Essay Question

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People should sometimes do things that they do not enjoy doing.

There is a common belief that people should sometimes do things that they find unpleasant. For the most part, I agree with this statement because everyone has duties and responsibilities at work and in personal life, which are often unavoidable, and sometimes people need to perform disagreeable tasks in order to achieve important goals. There are several reasons for this view.

First and foremost, almost all adults are employed, and their responsibilities may include a wide range of tasks, such as basic skills like working on a computer and writing reports, as well as more specialized professional duties. A person may genuinely enjoy their job, but there are always certain tasks that they may not find pleasant. Nevertheless, these tasks can be essential for the company or organization. If they are not completed, serious losses may occur. Therefore, an individual must perform their duties properly, even if they find them unpleasant.

Moreover, the path to success is often long and demanding. In order to achieve one’s goals, it is necessary to overcome difficulties and engage in activities that are not enjoyable. For instance, last year I set a goal to pass my final exams with the highest possible grades. The preparation process was long and exhausting. Every day I had to study four subjects for at least two or three hours in addition to regular school lessons. Two of these subjects were extremely difficult and boring for me; nevertheless, I devoted many hours to studying them. Eventually, despite various difficulties, I achieved my goal and passed all four exams with top grades.

On the other hand, some people argue that constantly forcing oneself to do unpleasant tasks can negatively affect mental well-being and the ability to care for personal needs. While this view is understandable, I believe everything depends on maintaining balance. If individuals plan their actions wisely and set clear priorities, they can distinguish between necessary and unnecessary tasks. As a result, they will be able to fulfill their obligations without sacrificing their personal well-being.

In conclusion, people should sometimes engage in activities that do not bring them immediate pleasure because obligations and long-term goals often require effort and self-discipline. Without such efforts, personal and professional success would be impossible.
